Olympic construction news
Four sports complexes are currently under construction in the Olympic park (in the Imeretinskaya lowland): Maly ice hockey arena, Bolshoi ice hockey palace, Ice sports palace for figure skating and short-track competitions, and Ice arena for curling.
The construction site for the Maly ice hockey arena has been fully equipped. The construction works at the remaining three sites are already in progress.

The foundation of the Ice arena for curling has been completed. It required 6,700 cubic meters of concrete and nearly 440 tonnes of fixtures.

The Bolshoi ice hockey palace’s 23 supporting columns are being placed in concrete. At the same time, the foundation of the future building is being laid, requiring 11,500 tonnes of fixtures and over 40,000 cubic meters of concrete. In order to provide supplies for the construction of the Olympic facility, a fixture-producing shop with a production capacity of 30 tonnes per day was launched on the construction site. All works on the construction of the foundation are expected to be completed in October 2009.

A total of 69 out of 120 piles have been installed at the foundation of the Ice sports palace for figure skating and short-track competitions. Seven bore machines are currently at work on the site. The construction workers plan to begin laying the concrete foundation in mid-September and launch the construction by October.

Olympic alpine skiing tracks located on the territory of the Roza Khutor resort are 80 percent complete. The resort has a total of 36 tracks, 24 of which will be used for alpine skiing competitions. Active works are currently in progress on the women’s downhill track, as well as an aerial cableway and a mountain station on the Roza Khutor tableland. Meanwhile, the freestyle-center and the snowboard-park are being designed.
