Specialized equipment enables the environmentalists to continuously monitor the air conditions and to measure the concentration of primary air pollutants, such as carbon oxides, nitrogen oxide and dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. In addition to that, the equipment automatically collects data on temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure.

Concrete casting works at the Bolshoi Ice Palace are about to be finished
A year after the first cubic meter of concrete was laid into the foundation, the arena has gained nearly 37 meters in height. Concrete casting of the support ring of the dome is currently underway. The beam, which functions as a support ring, is 2.1 meters wide and 1.5 meters high and it will be located at the height of 27 meters above the ground level.

Olympic Skating Centre: concrete casting of floor structures of the first tier will soon be finished
At the Olympic Centre for figure skating and short track speed skating, metal structures are being installed at the height of 20.7 meters above the ground level. At the height of 9.3 meters above the ground level, concrete casting and reinforcement of floor structures of the first tier are being finished. The total weight of the metal structures required to assemble the framework of the Skating Center will amount to 13,000 metric tons. The construction works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. The total height of the building will reach nearly 32 meters.

SC «Olympstroy» will undertake an additional environmental impact assessment of Olympic venues
To update the complex environmental impact assessment (EIA) of Olympic venues, SC «Olympstroy» is planning to review design documentation of certain venues and to undertake further surveying. SC «Olympstroy» expects to receive bids and offers concerning the programmes of additional environmental activities which will be aimed at preserving the endangered animal and plant species of the Sochi region as well as their unique natural habitat.
